heima~ Take nothing but Pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time.~ Hello fellow photo enthusiasts, welcome to my gallery. My name is Forrest Brodsky, I am just a simple photographer, and here is a brief portfolio of my work/experiments.
As you may see, I have a wide variety of cameras ranging from the plastic "toy" Holga, to the professional Mamiya SLR. I enjoy experimenting with the analog aspect of photography, and continue to be amazed at the many wonderful and abstract things that film can create. Feel free to let me know about any questions or comments you might have. fb.photo@comcast.net Enjoy!
Alternative
This summer I began an Alternative Photo Process class at Grossmont College, and I must say it has been one of the most creative and fun classes I have ever taken. We are covering process like, Lithography, Cyanotypes, Van Dyke Brown's, Gum Prints, Select-A-Color, Liquid Emulsion - you name it, we've probably done it! It also helps to have a great, energetic teacher, Suda House, who really puts the whole experience over the top. I highly recommend taking an alternative photo class if you have the means, they truly emit creativity from every pore. Anyway, this whole rant was intended to let you know that I've scanned a few of my pieces and put them up in the 35mm section. I will hopefully have more scans up, and possibly a break down of my final once I'm done.... until then... Happy Shooting!

Nouveau
Got around to posting some new (and old) stuff in both the 35mm and the 6x6 format. The new 6x6 images are actually more results (in color!) from my PinHolga experimentation. When you look close, they aren't sharp because I haven't yet dialed in my pinhole making skills, but I am getting closer! The 35mm stuff is some scans of negatives I had printed awhile back. I love the filed edges on the prints, my friend Sepehr turned me onto it some time ago. One image in particular is worth talking about, and I am referring to the San Diego Fires image. I woke up early one morning when the fires were still out of control and walked to the edge of campus to shoot it, and sat there watching the sunrise from behind the smoke... quite an eerie experience... But I digress, enjoy.

Summer Is Here
School is out, but work has been keeping me busy. Fortunately, I was able to get a couple of scans up from prints I made for my portfolio this past semester. I also added a little layout/montage whatever you want to call it of a friend of mine. Hopefully this summer will be filled with more photo adventures to share.
Happy shooting.

Yep...
Finally got some pictures up. Besides printing the good ol' Black and White in the darkroom, I've been playing alot with cross processing. I recently x-processed some cheapo C-41 film, and the results were a bit surprising, total green shift. Other than that, I have some new 6x6 x-pro images from the Holga. Also, I've got a new post up in the obscure which features a little pinhole experiment of mine.
Happy shooting.

Analog
Haven't been posting much, but I have been up to lots of photo adventures, the biggest being my access to an incredible darkroom via Grossmont College. Along with my shots for my assignments, I have been experimenting with some stuff, so hopefully I will have the time to sit down and post some stuff sometime soon.

Scan Complete
So I had my Velvia cross-processed like I said I would, but the prints that the lab gave me were not anything like I expected (a bit of a let down). But tonight I got around to scanning the negatives and discovered that the colors were more brilliant than the prints let on! So I have a few posted with the Mamiya and one with the Holga (another let down as only one good image came out of that roll from the Holga). Also some forgotten pictures with my Mamiya from Mt. Helix posted as well.
Happy shooting.

Velvia
I have recently gone on a purchasing binge and hoarded five boxes of Fuji Velvia 120 film which are currently residing in my fridge. I shot two rolls already, one with my Holga, and one with my Mamiya. I am going to have them cross processed (if your not sure what this is, check this out), which should happen sometime this week. Hope everyone had a great holiday season and a happy new year!
Cheers

Scanned
So instead of sitting down and studying for my Philosophy final tomorrow, I decided to take another stab at scanning my negatives from my Holga (medium format) 35mm conversion. For those of you who don't know about the Holga, I would strongly suggest taking a peek. It is a very versatile camera, and I will soon be doing a series of pinhole photos with it. But for today, I scanned the 35mm negatives and after much fiddling and stubbornness, I was able to achieve what I wanted. I will post a few examples for the time being, but look for more in the near future.

Changes
Hey everyone, I changed up the layout just a tad. But the big change is the new blog page, where I posted a brief how-to on camera obscuras. Check it out and you might just be inspired to create your own!

Camera Obscura
I have recently turned my bathroom into a camera obscura, it was pretty neat. Hopefully I shall post a blog somewhere with a detailed analysis of how to do one yourself, or I might just post some images. Other than that, my cameras have been suffering from neglect, but not for too much longer.
